“Thus did art develop after the ages of barbarism”.
Goethe, “astounded” at encountering Mantegna in Padua

Why we love it

This magnificent painting by Mantegna is based on one of the most beloved stories of Christianity, being more than a beautiful Christmas card, as Mantegna offers a relationship of the viewer’s narrative with the characters in the painting, focusing the scene on the baby, and the expressions of the 3 kings, which narrate this momentous event.

The painting was bought at a Christie’s auction in London for $ 10.4 million by the J. Paul Getty Museum in California, where it can be admired today.

This is just our small contribution, your curiosity can do the rest.
