This summer, the National Gallery of Iceland is thrilled to host two landmark exhibitions by Björk and James Merry. Filling all four of our galleries through September 20, 2026, Ummyndlingar (Metamorphlings) and echolalia offer a deep dive into the worlds of two truly unique creators.

Björk: echolalia

Come explore the work of Björk, the iconic artist who has spent fifty years blending music, nature, and technology in ways no one else can. echolalia focuses on Björk’s incredible ability to bring people together—from musicians and dancers to scientists and filmmakers—to create something entirely new. Through three immersive installations, you’ll have the chance to step inside her vision and experience the stunning sights and sounds of her work up close.

James Merry: Metamorphlings

We are also proud to present the first-ever museum retrospective for artist James Merry. With over 80 pieces from the last ten years, the exhibition shows how Merry’s work has grown and evolved. At the heart of it all is the mask, which Merry uses as a tool to explore how we transform and how our identities can shift. It’s a beautiful look at those moments of change where everything is fluid and full of possibility.
