Gabriele Münter: Contours of a World

November 7, 2025 – April 26, 2026

Step into the world of Gabriele Münter, an artist who spent her life capturing the beauty of everyday moments and the places she traveled. Spread across three Tower galleries, this exhibition features over fifty paintings alongside nineteen rare photographs from her time exploring the United States between 1898 and 1900. Even in these early snapshots, taken with a simple portable camera, you can see her incredible talent for finding the perfect light and composition.

Münter is perhaps best known for her bold use of color. After traveling through Europe and Tunisia, she returned to Germany and helped start the revolutionary "Blue Rider" (Der Blaue Reiter) group, pushing the boundaries of modern art. As you walk through the galleries, you’ll see how her style continued to evolve through the First World War in Scandinavia and the changing culture of the 1920s and ’30s. At its heart, her work is a celebration of curiosity—a lifelong journey of finding the extraordinary in the local and the universal bond that connects us all.
