As the longest-running look at contemporary art in the United States, this year’s exhibition brings together 56 artists, duos, and collectives to capture the spirit of our current moment. The works on display explore the many ways we connect with one another and the world around us—from our families and friendships to our relationships with technology, nature, and the shared systems that support us all.
The Whitney Biennial 2026 doesn't try to provide a single, simple answer to what life is like today. Instead, it focuses on feelings and atmospheres, inviting you into spaces that spark everything from tension and unease to tenderness and humor. Together, these pieces embrace the complexity of the modern world and imagine bold, unexpected new ways for us to live together.
